Flame brooch auctioned at Olympian event in aid of the Millfield Foundation
Wedmore jeweller, Erica Sharpe, winner of the prestigious British Jeweller’s Award 2012, was recently commissioned to make a very special jewel for auction at a prestigious 2012 Olympian event hosted by Seb Coe to raise funds for the Millfield Foundation scholarships and bursaries.
It was a real joy to design and create this unique piece, using the highest quality materials and wonderful to meet some of the world’s top athletes and learn about their fascinating stories of success.
Erica hand-crafted the stunning, flowing flame shape in 18ct yellow, rose and white gold to represent the colours of gold, silver and bronze. The piece was been painstakingly pavé set with graded natural coloured diamonds, ranging from white through rare fancy yellows to champagne and cognac. True to the highest standard in traditional craftsmanship, she hand-cut and patterned the back of each of the 85 settings to complement the flame theme. The beautiful diamonds add to the glittering flame effect as the piece is worn – each catching the light at a different angle throughout the curved surfaces
The event, at London’s Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane, was attended by many Olympians including Mary Bignal-Rand and Duncan Goodhew. The brooch reached the highest bid of the evening.
